Number One knew how the life of a starship captain, especially one of the captain of the flagship, could spiral out of control over something simple. She supposed she should considering she'd been a captain in her own right for the better part of a decade, and the man she learned from was commanding ships for just shy of thirty years.

So she didn't give Jim too much trouble considering he arrived at the ranch mostly on time and actually admitted that he forgot, "Refits can be hectic," and if Jim was paying attention, she was sure he'd pick up on the slightest hint of sarcasm in her voice.

The ranch smelled like dinner, real, honest to goodness home cooked dinner. Number One was very good at almost everything she tried, but cooking wasn't it. So the fact that dinner was being made should be a surprise. So should the half finished second glass of wine on the table.
